In a surprising turn of events, Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling has responded to his own Oscar nomination for the film “Barbie” with a scathing critique, expressing disappointment over the omission of director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie in their respective categories.
While “Barbie” secured a total of eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, the absence of Greta Gerwig in the Best Director category and Margot Robbie in the Best Actress category has raised eyebrows in the industry.

Gosling, nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Ken in the film, released a statement expressing his mixed emotions. In the statement obtained by The Independent, he shared his gratitude for the nomination, acknowledging the honor of being recognized alongside exceptional artists. However, he didn’t shy away from addressing the notable snubs.
“I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken. But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film,” Gosling stated.
Expressing his disappointment at their omission, Gosling emphasized the pivotal roles played by Gerwig and Robbie in the success of “Barbie.” He praised their talent, grit, and genius, asserting that their contributions were integral to the groundbreaking nature of the film.
Gosling added, “Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees. Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film.”
America Ferrera, another cast member of “Barbie,” had earlier expressed her disappointment at the snubs for Gerwig and Robbie in their individual categories.
“Barbie” received nominations in various categories, including Best Costume Design, Production Design, and two original songs, “I’m Just Ken” and “What Was I Made For?”. Gerwig also received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, alongside her co-writer and husband, Noah Baumbach. Robbie secured a nomination for Best Picture in her capacity as one of the film’s producers.
As the industry processes these unexpected snubs, the controversy surrounding this year’s Oscar nominations continues to unfold, leaving fans and critics eager to see how the awards ceremony will unfold.
